Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Fri, February 6, 2004 - 5:17 AMWhatever happened to Adobe Atmosphere? I thought it had at least some potential? One of the drawbacks was of course that it required a browser plug-in. Perhaps they should give out a beta developer edition to generate some interest. Then they could charge us those big bucks for new versions. -

Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Fri, February 6, 2004 - 9:16 AMYeah, not sure what ever happened to Adobe Atmosphere. I thought with the release of Adobe CE that it would be souped up and bundled with that package. Seems like things that show promise eventually get dropped.
We built a few apps in Java3D and then of course, Sun dropped Java3D. Lately, we've been looking at a flavor of OpenGL - Python/ OpenGL or PyGL. We're considering it, but nothing to report yet.

Sat, June 12, 2004 - 3:55 PM3d world just did a review of it, so it may be on its way to the world. Sounds cool, but I've said that before.

Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Sun, June 13, 2004 - 2:04 AMI have been using Anark Studio with Flash. It does some very cool stuff and my clients love the resulting work.
www.anark.com/
I also use Eovia's Carrara Studio 3 with the VectorStyle plug-in. Again, I can get cool results out fast and effectively.

My problems with Atmosphere is that it only works on PCs and all previous versions just sucked for doing anything useful. I would rather do stuff in VRML still than use Atmosphere. JM2C. -

Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Wed, May 4, 2005 - 3:27 PMHello everyone. New here.... Allen is the name. ;-)
I have just picked up a copy of Anark and I am encouraged to see that your clients love the work. It seems that it is useful with build a web based virtual world and I like it's ability to map streaming video into it.
I have been playing with the idea of a creative project having different artists (2D, 3D, After Effects junkies...) contribute to build an online world.... From that world we would write a collaborative story based upon a premise and film the story in that 3D world and key in the actors/performers...
It seems like Anark may be the tool?

Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Wed, August 11, 2004 - 10:38 AMWireFusion is a Java plugin that handles 3D without a "plug in"; I hesitate to advocate something I have yet to try, but it does seem quyite promising, and as it is free with the latest issue of 3Dworld, a pretty painless experiment for those with curiosity. -

Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Wed, February 23, 2005 - 12:47 PMHello all,
I too favor WireFusion: no plugin, multiplatform, 2D GUI design + programming integration, fast rendering engine, reasonable price and no publication royalties.
Enjoy!

Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Wed, March 2, 2005 - 5:17 AMHello everyone.
Dont know if anyone has tried these yet but the new Blender:
www.blender3d.com/
Also scol:
www.scol-technologies.org/core.htm and for those that dont speak French or just dont feel like going through that kind of trouble, you can go here for the english link to the Linux/Unix open source version here. sourceforge.net/projects/scol
You can also see some sample sites:
www.scolville.fr.tc/
There is also a better site for tools and plugins for scol but I cant find it at the moment> I'll post as soon as I find the site.
Oh, and all these guys are free and python ready.

Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Sat, August 13, 2005 - 3:57 PMNoticed that no one has mentioned Swift 3D...
www.swift3d.com
Definitely one of the finest products in 3D Development for Web Projects. Check out their "User Showcase" under "Community" to find some amazing productions. I have always particularly enjoyed the Illuminations site:

The racing game is particularly wicked, especially for an early version Flash product.

Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Tue, August 23, 2005 - 4:15 PMI work for a visualization company here in SF, and we use Anark in conjunction with 3D apps, photogrammetry, and GI to create interactive environments. Check out:

and look under the Immersive Explorations section in our portfolio.

Re: 3D on the Web. Anything New?
Tue, August 30, 2005 - 7:35 PMNot it, well at least not yet.
But I just visited
www.processing.org
and found it so neat that I might give it a try.
P.S. and shameless plug, if anybody knows of any graphics/3d/user interface/web/illustration gigs in the bay area I'd love to hear about em.
Cheers
Keno.
